THE Dean and Chapter of Derby Cathedral and the Derby diocesan board of education are seeking government approval to open a new school for 11-19-year-olds in the city.

Derby Cathedral School, as it would be known, would be the first C of E secondary school in the diocese, which has 110 C of E primaries.

If the project gets the go-ahead, the school would take its first 240 pupils in September 2017, reaching its full complement of 840 over six years.

Specialising in music and mathematics, the school would be part of the regeneration of Derby to which the diocese is committed, the Bishop, the Rt Revd Alastair Redfern, said.
