From John Hutchinson

Sir, - When reading the Revd Jennie Hogan's piece about driving up the A1 (Comment, 20 March), I was reminded of being sent on a course from Torquay to Beverley in the East Riding. After driving seemingly endlessly in a northerly direction, I was relieved to reach the Beverley turning off the A1. Beside it was a large sign with an arrow pointing ahead: "To the North". I thought I was there, but apparently not so.
