Seated Figure (1960), an oil on canvas painting by
Francis Bacon, is to be auctioned at Christie's in New York, on 12
November. It is one of a Bacon's "Papal" series, prompted by the
artist's preoccupation with Velázquez's 1650 work, Portrait of Pope
Innocent X. The "Papal" works are not often offered for sale; the
Seated Figure is expected to sell for up to $60
million
