CLARE KENDALL/BIBLE SOCIETY

An inflatable whale, 50 feet long, was installed on the beach at Weston-super-Mare last week, as part of an event by the Bible Society to retell the story of Jonah and the whale. The audience were invited inside the creature, where the Circo Rum Ba Ba circus performers acted out the story. The Seafront and Event Services Manager for North Somerset Council, Darren Fairchild, said: "It's a bit quirky and fits perfectly with the seafront." Earlier this year, the Royal Parks had refused permission to host the inflatable, saying that it was not able to feature "events of a religious nature". The Queen is the patron of the Bible Society
