Baking in Bath

03 October 2014

THEY call it "the most significant sponge-based event ever to hit Bath".The Great Bath Bake Sale will take place in Bath Abbey, in Bath & Wells diocese, on 18 October, when the north aisle will be filled with hundreds of cakes and cookies.

"It will be the first time that the public will be able to show their support for Footprint, the Abbey's fund-raising appeal driven by the need to save the historic floor from collapsing," Elaine Teh says. There will also be bread-making workshops for the children.

The mania for baking seems to have spread across the country since the success of BBC TV's Great British Bake Off. But its celebration in Bath seems even more appropriate, as Bath is Mary Berry's home town.
