Denise Inge 'full of faith right to the end'

DENISE INGE, an expert on Thomas Traherne, who was married to Dr John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester, died on Easter Day. She was diagnosed with inoperable cancer last year. Dr Inge said: "It's appropriate that the Lord should have taken her to himself on Easter Day, the day of resurrection. She believed in that resurrection fervently - though she did not want to die. . . She was full of faith right to the end." The funeral will be held in Worcester Cathedral on 6 May at 2 p.m. All are welcome to attend.


Music director appears in court

THE former assistant director of music at Rochester Cathedral appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Thursday of last week, after being charged with sexual activity with a girl under 16. Samuel Rathbone, aged 28, who was responsible for running the girls' choir, did not enter a plea. He will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 8 May.The Dean of Rochester Cathedral, Dr Mark Beach, said that Mr Rathbone had resigned before his arrest in order to pursue other musical activities.


RC bishops call for ordination of married men

ROMAN CATHOLIC bishops are calling for the permission to ordain married men to be widened, The Tablet reported on Thursday of last week. The Bishops of Brentwood, Hexham, Newcastle, and Menevia expressed support for the idea. Married men who have been ministers in other denominations before joining the RC Church are allowed to become priests.


Sacked nursery nurse alleges discrimation

A CHRISTIAN nursery nurse, Sarah Mbuyi, is claiming unfair dismissal on grounds of religious discrimination, after losing her job after telling a gay colleague that God did not condone the practice of homosexuality. Ms Mbuyi said that her comments were made after being pressed by the colleague: "When she asked me directly what I believed, I was open about sharing the Bible's teaching that homosexual sex - not the people - is wrong."


Anti-fracking protester cleared

A CHRISTIAN anti-fracking protester, Ruth Jarman, has been cleared after being charged with public-order offences. Ms Jarman, a member of the board of Operation Noah, was found not guilty at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Thursday of last week. In August last year, she took part in a protest at Balcombe, in West Sussex (News, 23 August).
