Dancing shoes

24 October 2014

KT Bruce/the Door

MORE than 90 people - 20 more than expected - came to the barn dance in the nave of St John's, Gosbrook Road, Caversham, part of the Caversham Thameside and Mapledurham parish in Oxford diocese. A number of them had come to relive their youth, when barn dances were a fun alternative to ballroom dancing, well before disco music took over.

Live music was provided by a local band, Inisheer, all churchgoers from All Saints', Upper Bucklebury; St Mary's, Bucklebury; and St Peter's, Bradfield; and the moves were called by Howard Ballard.

The bring-and-share refreshments were provided by members of the congregation, and shared with the non-churchgoers, who made up about a quarter of the crowd.
