Canon Ivor Smith-Cameron writes:
FURTHER to your obituary of the Rt Revd Colin
Scott (Gazette, 17 April): it was Colin who welcomed me
into this richly diverse mission field, when I first arrived as
Canon Missioner in the diocese of Southwark in 1972.
Although deeply committed to his Evangelical roots, Colin was
totally devoid of partisan leanings. A firm friend to the clergy, a
hospitable host alongside Margaret, his wife, he was trusted by
Bishop Mervyn Stockwood to bring reconciliation to many seemingly
irreconcilable views, at a time when there were sharply different
ideas about appropriate models of ministry.
He was also a great influence in the diocesan office, and a wise
counsellor, especially when difficult issues such as those about
reductions in clergy posts and other thorny matters arose.
He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace and rise in
glory.
