A CHORAL WORK by a German composer, influenced by the shape of
evensong and inspired by the poetry of Edward Thomas and the story
of the poet's last farewell to his wife before leaving for the
Western Front, is to have its première at the Three Choirs Festival
(3choirs.org/) in Worcester Cathedral.
The work, A Foreign Field, by Torsten Rasch, was
commissioned jointly with the Städtische Theater in Chemnitz,
Germany, and support from the National Lottery through Arts Council
England and the Heritage Lottery Fund. It sets English, Latin, and
German words, and English and German musicians will take part. The
31 July concert will also include works by Elgar and Vaughan
Williams.
