From Mr John Stidolph
Sir, - When I was young, not all that long ago, men removed
their hats whenever they entered any building, whether it was a
church, a shop, a pub, or their own home (except for Andy Capp, of
course).
Times have changed, and it may be of some comfort to those who
are offended by the sight of a man wearing a hat in a cathedral (Letters, 15
August) to learn that even in the Long Room at Lord's I have
this summer seen members of MCC with their panama hats on their
heads. Incredible, I know.
