Synod: Faculty

by
18 July 2014

MOVING the Revision Stage of the Draft Care of Churches and Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction (Amendment) Measure, the Dean of Portsmouth, the Very Revd David Brindley, said that "the amendments . . . are important."

The Draft Measure relaxed the provisions that "restrict building on closed churchyards"; allowed the appellate court to intervene where there were "unacceptable delays"; and allowed appeals on procedure to be dealt with by a single judge.

"The most significant provision. . . provides for the establishment . . . of lists of repair and other works that can be undertaken without the need for a faculty," Dean Brindley said.

The revision committee had accepted a proposal that the Rule Committee should include a DAC chair and a DAC secretary "when it is making rules concerned with the faculty jurisdiction".

The Synod took note of the report.

The revision stage of the Draft Measure was completed.
