MOVING the Revision Stage of the Draft Care of Churches and
Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction (Amendment) Measure,
the Dean of Portsmouth, the Very
Revd David Brindley, said that "the amendments . . . are
important."
The Draft Measure relaxed the provisions that "restrict building
on closed churchyards"; allowed the appellate court to intervene
where there were "unacceptable delays"; and allowed appeals on
procedure to be dealt with by a single judge.
"The most significant provision. . . provides for the
establishment . . . of lists of repair and other works that can be
undertaken without the need for a faculty," Dean Brindley said.
The revision committee had accepted a proposal that the Rule
Committee should include a DAC chair and a DAC secretary "when it
is making rules concerned with the faculty jurisdiction".
The Synod took note of the report.
The revision stage of the Draft Measure was completed.
