Rev’s portrayal of the Church’s life is racist

17 April 2014

From Vasantha Gnanadoss
Sir, - I refer to the article "Writers of new series of Rev explore tensions in C of E" (News, 14 March), in which your reporter suggests that "the writers really do hold up a mirror to parish life," and that "the scripts show evidence of finely tuned advice."

The programme's portrayal of Black and Asian Christians and their contributions to the Church of England is inaccurate. The Black characters are negatively stereotyped. There are no Asian Christians.

The reality is that there are many talented Asian and Black clergy and laity who are playing significant roles within the Church of England.
