THE Canons of
Chichester Cathedral will be regularly remembering
at least some of the parishes in the diocese as they kneel on them.
The Seffrid Guild, the cathedral's embroidery group, have just
designed and produced 36 new kneelers, each depicting churches from
across the diocese, such as this one, of Eastergate
(above).
Before they were used, the
kneelers were blessed by the Dean, the Very Revd Nicholas Frayling,
with members of the College of Canons in attendance.
Since 1991, the 25 members of the Seffrid Group, named after the
bishop who repaired the cathedral after a disastrous fire in 1187,
have undertaken a number of embroidery projects involving canvas
work, gold work, and appliqué, for the cathedral and also for other
churches in the diocese.
