MEMBERS of the congregation
of St Helen's, Wheathampstead, in St Albans
diocese, took part in a Passion play on Palm Sunday. It was a small
ad hoc cast, who made the most of their few props in winter weather
that was far removed from a Jerusalem spring. The Roman soldiers
kept their scarves, coats, and body warmers, while sharing one
helmet and spear to lend authenticity. Jesus was mercifully spared
a loincloth, and was covered with a white sheet.
Nevertheless, it made a moving start to Holy Week, and one
member of the congregation said: "It was more significant for me
than my visit to Oberammergau."
