Doing the sums in the parish

04 October 2013

From Mr Ron Jeffries
Sir, - I attend a parish church with about 100 on the electoral roll. For 150 years, we have been a Crown Living with our own Vicar, and have paid our parish purse in full happily for years.

Last year, we lost our Crown Living status, were given a part-time priest-in-charge, and had our parish purse of £45,000 reduced by some £9000 a year.

What sort of financial sense does this make? Can someone please enlighten me?
