THE 71st anniversary of the bombing of the city of
York coincided, this year, with the first
anniversary of the partnership that St Martin's, Coney Street, now
has with the Community of the Cross of Nails. Their Act of
Remembrance, led by the Revd David Simpson, included the "Lighting
of Lanterns" among the ruins of the bombed part of the church.
Mr Simpson held the peace candle; prayers were offered for
peace, justice, and reconciliation; and all casualties of war were
remembered. The lanterns (lit candles in white paper bags) were
placed by members of the congregation.
