From Canon John Goodchild

Sir, - The Archbishop of Kenya is, no doubt, motivated by his own culture, and bad translations of the Bible, in condemning our Archbishops over same-sex marriage (News, 19 July). They should send him a copy of James Brownson's Bible, Gender, Sexuality (Books, 14 June), and invite him to come and discuss it with them, so that they can update their biblical scholarship.

From the Revd Jonathan Frais

Sir, - The Very Revd Dr Jeffrey John says he cannot see "that anything in scripture condemns" gay marriage (News, 12 July); but the Bible says that it does not fit the way of creation (Romans 1), law (1 Corinthians 6), or salvation (1 Timothy 1). As we mark 450 years of the Thirty-Nine Articles, could we not recover the guidance of the Word (Articles VI, XX)?
