CHURCH of England bishops are urging churchgoers to contribute
to two reviews about the future of the promises made by Scouts and
Guides.
Writing to the Church Times (Letters),
the Bishops of Southwell & Nottingham, Truro, Grantham, and
Jarrow mention the Church's "deep links" with uniformed
organisations. "Many have come to faith through Scouting, and many
have come to Scouting through faith."
The reviews coincide with debate about what sort of pledge
Scouts and Guides should make (
News, 11 January). The reviews close on 31 January (Scouts),
and 3 March (Girlguiding UK).
A briefing paper, "Keeping the Promise", is available on the C of E website. The Bishops write: "We urge
Guides, Scouts, and their leaders and parents to respond to this
important consultation to demonstrate the support, collaboration,
and good will of the church communities in our partnership with the
Scouts and Girlguiding."
