Exam cheat

19 April 2013

SHUTTERSTOCK

A FORMER headteacher of St Bartholomew's C of E Primary School, in Bolton, Gary Robertshaw, who had admitted doctoring pupils' SATs exam papers, was formally reprimanded by the Teaching Agency last week.

Mr Robertshaw, aged 37, did not attend the hearing, in Coventry, which decided that he had been guilty of unacceptable professional conduct. He resigned last year after an investigation into the incident began. No other members of staff were involved in the deception, the panel was told. Mr Robertshaw now faces disciplinary action, which could include a lifetime ban on teaching.

After taking over in 2008, Mr Robertshaw led the school out of special measures, while undergoing cancer treatment. His efforts were rewarded with a free trip to New York, after pupils recommended him to Noel Edmond's Christmas Presents TV show, it is understood.
