Subsidised meals for schoolchildren

From Mr Ian Kelly

Sir, - I fully support the recommendation that all schoolchildren should receive nutritious, wholesome, and healthy school meals, as proposed in the School Food Plan ( "'Free school meals for all'", 26 July). Such meals are not free, however.

To use the term "free" is a misnomer. What is provided free to one must be paid for by another. Nothing is free. The correct term is "subsidised". There is no such thing as a free lunch.
