THE hit United States TV series The Bible is to be shown in the UK next month.

The ten-hour mini-series broke records in the US as the most watched cable-TV series, attracting 100 million viewers. It will be shown on Channel 5 during December, although the station's schedules have yet to be finalised.

Damaris, an evangelistic organisation that uses mainstream films as a draw, has produced resources for churches in association with the series. These include an interactive souvenir guide, which shows clips if viewed on a smartphone. The Bible Society has produced a "Bible Bible", using photos from the series; and there are posters, bookmarks, and a video to play while singing a carol.

A DVD of the series is to be released on 26 December. Damaris is offering gift editions that can be ordered online: recipients will receive a card and a souvenir guide before Christmas, and the DVD when it is released.

Critics praised the series for its high production values and its international cast. Among the UK actors is Nonso Anozie (above), from Hendon, who plays Samson.
