RSPCA patronage

From Canon John Goodchild
Sir, - The Archbishop of Canterbury should be commended for refusing patronage of the RSPCA (News, 23 August). He and those who will eventually succeed him already have far too much to do. Jesus said animals were important, but people were more important (Luke 12.6-7). Perhaps the bishop of a rural diocese with livestock and poultry farmers could be given a national brief for animal welfare and the encouragement of a theology of the animal kingdom.
