Sir, - It was great to read Nick Mayhew-Smith's article (Features, 9 August) about the Lindisfarne Gospels. But his reference to Durham as their "spiritual home"? Nah.

I appreciate that technical and security reasons may make Durham a better place than the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to house the exhibition, but let's not pretend that they were created and used there. Holy Island is their spiritual home.
