From Mr Robert Farwell
Sir, - The concerns of Mrs Ruth McCurry on bishops in Chichester diocese (Letters, 6 December) may perhaps be alleviated.

The Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, is visiting all his deaneries in turn, and at Midhurst on 6 November said that the new Bishop of Lewes, who, like the Bishop of Horsham, will have responsibilities over the whole diocese, is to be an Evangelical of open persuasion.

Criteria, inter alia, are that he will ordain women himself, support women's ministry generally, and work with the Revd Julia Peaty, who is already in post, to encourage such ministry in the diocese.
