Image for Good Friday

12 April 2013

THE silhouette of this life-sized image of the crucified Christ could be seen from outside St Peter's church window on Good Friday morning, and it provoked a lot of conversation in the village of Newnham on Severn, in Gloucester diocese, and on Facebook, the Vicar, the Revd Juliet Stephenson says.

Her husband, Phill Stephenson, had made the sculpture during the all-night vigil on Maundy Thursday, fashioning it from short pieces of kindling wood. Inspired by the Wesley hymn "O thou, who camest from above", it was called The Kindling Christ, and was put on dis- play in time for a service at 8 a.m. on Good Friday.
