Priest sells his ‘jewels’

08 March 2012

WILL YOU help to train a priest? Will you support our unique Train-A-Priest (TAP) Fund this Lent, in its diamond-jubilee year?

Our appeal has got off to a leisurely start, with £10,360 now in the bank from generous readers of the Church Times. There is plenty of time to send a personal donation, or to organise a fund-raising effort.

If you would like to sell your diamonds for TAP — because TAP, as we explained in our past two issues, is an ordinand’s best friend — please let us know. But maybe the Revd Tony Bell, of Glapwell, in Derbyshire, is more typical of our readership. A priest downsizing in preparation for retirement, he has more than 200 back copies (in “excellent condition”) of the Expository Times from March 1995 to March 2012 inclusive, which he thinks he will no longer need.

He is auctioning them on eBay for TAP. The auction was due to begin yesterday, and will finish at 9 p.m. on Sunday 18 March. This link should take you to the auction, otherwise the item no. is 320859746938. (Use the advanced search facility.) Why not follow his example this Lent, and see if there is something you can give up for TAP?

Donations can be made online at http://www.hymnsam.co.uk/train-a-priest , which is a secure page. Or send cheques, postal orders, or charity cheques to: TAP Fund, Church Times, 13a Hellesdon Park Road, Norwich NR6 5DR. If you are eligible, please use the Gift Aid form printed here or online.

Please get others on board — with a collection, for example. We have a downloadable leaflet to help you: it includes the Gift Aid form, and can be printed from a link at the online-giving page.
