Creative at five

03 January 2012

THE Bishop of St Asaph, the Rt Revd Gregory Cameron, was one of the bishops who commissioned a Christmas card from among the youngest members of his flock. The invitation went out to all the church schools in the diocese, and more than 100 entries came back.

Bishop Cameron and his wife, Clare, shared the judging, and chose the card designed by five-year-old Gabriel Batters, from Ysgol Llanddulas (right). The Bishop presented Gabriel with a £30 book token, and ten copies of the finished card to send to his family and friends.

Saying what a joy it was to have such a competition, the Bishop added: “There is so much creativity; so everyone’s a winner. The schools are able to teach about Christmas, the children are able to exercise their creative skills, and the Bishop gets a card out of it.”

The second prize went to Rosie Mae Webster, aged nine, from St Giles’s School in Wrexham. There were joint third prizes, and a number of Highly Commended certificates.
