FIVE church-based universities and university colleges in the
Cathedrals Group are among the 20 top scorers for student
satisfaction in the 2012 National Student Survey of 122
higher-education institutions.
Newman University College, Birmingham, was ninth; Winchester
University was joint tenth; Chester University and Trinity
University College, Leeds, were joint 12th; and St Mary's
University College, Twickenham, was joint 15th.
The Vice-Chancellor of Winchester, Professor Joy Carter, who
chairs the Cathedrals Group, said that one of the keys to its
success was the attention given to good staff-student relationships
in the Group, praised in last year's report Distinctiveness and
Identity in a Challenging HE Environment, by the Leadership
Foundation for Higher Education (
