New season rolls out

03 May 2012

by Paul Handley

THE Church Times Cricket Cup competition is about to start. Indeed, it might have started already, had it not been for the weather. We are confident, however, that the light of God’s countenance will shine on the matches listed here, and possibly even the sun.

The list here is to encourage readers to attend matches. We will post contact details for each team on our website this week, to enable spectators to find out details of time and venue. We would also encourage any clergy or full-time church workers to find out about playing: although the fixtures are set, the teams are not, and, in the past, several sides have played under strength.

If your diocese is not in the list, it might mean that all that is missing is an enthusiast, willing to gather together the latent diocesan talent. Please consider whether this might be you for the 2013 season. Contact any of the existing team secretaries to find out how easy and enjoyable this is.

Finally, don’t miss Rachel Mann’s heartfelt praise of the Church Times competition: “Cricket offers a way for us to be bodily creatures, utterly liberated from our usual worries and concerns. . . I am convinced that God is at the heart of the competition.”
