Share move in Durham

29 June 2012

THE Bishop of Durham, the Rt Revd Justin Welby, announced "a complete upending" of his diocese's parish-share system last week.

Bishop Welby said: "Instead of setting the budget, then sending out requests to parishes to contribute, we will instead ask the deaneries collectively to decide what they can pay, with each parish looking at its contribution. On the basis of what is offered, the budget will be set."

He said that from 2025 the target would be for the diocese to be fully self-sustaining.
