From the Revd Neil Patterson
Sir, — It has been interesting to watch the “countdown” of surviving pre-1975 incumbents (Out of the Question, 20 January). It seems that no one has yet considered challenging compulsory retirement at 70 under the Equality Act 2010 as age discrimination against clergy office-holders. (The Act permits dismissal of employees on retirement, which would be the point in dispute.)
As an incumbent aged 32, I have little expectation of retiring at 70, but shall, none the less, watch the situation with interest.
