PEARSON TEACHING AWARDS

Gold medal: the head of Weston All Saints' Church of England Primary School, Bath, Anne Bull, was named Headteacher of the Year at the national finals of the Pearson Teaching Awards, at a ceremony in London on Sunday.

Mrs Bull (above, with the gold medal won by the rower Katherine Grainger, who also attended the event), who received her Plato award from the classical-music presenter Katie Derham, has led the 460-pupil school for more than 20 years. She was nominated by the head teachers of neighbouring schools for the part she played in founding the Bath Primary Arts Festival.

A native of Truro, she has spent her whole career in C of E schools. She was formerly head of two church primaries in Wiltshire, making her one of the longest-serving heads in the country, the chairman of Weston All Saints' governors, Tom Peryer, said.

"Like all great heads, she knows what she wants and is adept at turning her vision for the school into reality," he said. Her son, Paul Bull, is also a primary head teacher.
