From the Revd Paul Burr
Sir, - The Dean of St Albans, the Very Revd Dr Jeffrey John, says that the Church "does not deserve to be listened to" on the subject of same-sex marriage ( News, 17 August). So on what basis should the Dean be listened to? Does he not cut off the branch on which he sits?

He criticises the Archbishop of Canterbury for changing his position. The Archbishop is someone who chose to listen. The Dean is someone who counsels against listening. It is not difficult to see which is the more authentic form of discipleship - or of authentic Christian leadership.
PAUL BURR
