Petition on genocide against the Kurds

20 July 2012

From Canon Stephen Evans

Sir, - I have recently returned from leading the first delegation of Anglican priests to Kurdistan, the KRG-administered area of northern Iraq. During our visit, we were able to visit and speak with the leaders of the indigenous Christian Churches, as well as with parliamentarians and representatives of other faith communities.

Readers might like to add their names to the current e-petition calling on HM Government to recognise the genocide (Anfal) carried out against the Iraqi Kurds by Saddam Hussein in the 1970s and 1980s. During this period, hundreds of thousands of innocent people perished, and 4500 villages were destroyed. The petition may be signed at http://epetititions.direct. gov.uk/petitions/31014. One hundred thousand signatures are needed to trigger a debate on the genocide in Parliament. The petition is sponsored by Nadhim Zahawi MP.
