Is running prayer?

From the Revd Kim Fabricius

Sir, — As a practitioner for almost 30 years, I am glad to see that Canon Giles Fraser has taken up the discipline of running (Comment, 13 January). But why talk of running’s being “like” prayer, as if its physicality rendered it a quasi-spiritual exercise at best? And why talk of its “benefit”, as if, quite unlike prayer, running should be judged by a utilitarian calculus?

No, let running be prayer, a way of praying with your body, and a wonderfully playful, if exacting, waste of time.
