A REPORT by an anti-fascist campaign group says that three Christian organisations are part of a “Counter-Jihad” movement that is “the new face of the far Right in Europe”.
The report and website The ‘Counter-Jihad’ movement, published by Hope not Hate, says that it is “the largest and most comprehensive survey of anti-Muslim and Islamophobic organisations to date”. The Barnabas Fund, Christian Concern (CC), and the Christian Legal Centre (CLC), are listed among 17 “Counter-Jihadist” organisations in the UK. Other organisations listed include the British National Party and the English Defence League.
The website does not explain exactly why the Christian organisations are “Counter-Jihadist”. It describes the Barnabas Fund as an organisation that “campaigns on behalf of persecuted Christian minorities living in Muslim-dominated countries around the world”. CC, it says, “has established a Equal and Free campaign to oppose the illegal introduction of sharia law”, and CLC “provides legal support for Christians in the UK and lobbies on their behalf”.
The Barnabas Fund, Christian Concern, and the Christian Legal Centre were asked to respond to their inclusion in the report. No response had been received at the time of going to press.
