From the Revd B. J. W. Cave
Sir, — The recently retired Chaplain General of Prisons, the Ven. William Noblett, was outstanding in his development of a genuinely interfaith approach to prison chaplaincy provision. This has been to the undoubted benefit of those who live and work in prison, and also to all who are concerned with the criminal justice system.
His replacement should be appointed because he or she is the best person for this uniquely demanding role, and not through consideration of other aspects of his or her personal background (News, 17 February).
