New Bishop of Edinburgh
THE Rector of St John’s, Princes Street, and Dean of the diocese of Edinburgh, the Very Revd Dr John Armes, has been appointed as the new Bishop of Edinburgh. Before moving to Scotland in 1998, Dr Armes served in the dioceses of Manchester and of Carlisle. The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Most Revd David Chillingworth, praised his “distinctive ministry”, which “has placed the ministry of the Scottish Episcopal Church at the heart of the city”.
Children’s Society appoints Chief Executive Officer
THE Revd Matthew Reed, the chief executive of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Children’s Society. The Bishop of Truro, the Rt Revd Tim Thornton, who chairs the Society’s trustees, said: “At a time when things are increasingly tough for vulnerable children and families, strong leadership is more important than ever.”
RSCM director to leave
THE director of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM), Lindsay Gray, will step down in the autumn. The RSCM announced that Mr Gray, who was appointed in 2007, “plans to pursue other professional interests over the next few years”. Mr Gray said: “I would still like to do other things at this stage of my career, and, with the organisation in very good heart, I feel that now is the right time to move on.”
