Pope's former butler charged

THE former butler to Pope Benedict XVI, Paolo Gabriele, has been charged with aggravated theft, including stealing a cheque for €100,000 (£78,000). A magistrate ruled on Monday that Mr Gabriele should stand trial for stealing confidential papers, which were leaked to the media. Mr Gabriele was reported as saying that he had leaked the documents because of "evil and corruption everywhere in the [RC] Church".

Billy Graham released from hospital

DR BILLY GRAHAM, the American evangelist, was released from hospital on Tuesday, after suffering from bronchitis. He had been in hospital for two days. The pulmonologist who treated Dr Graham, Dr Daniel Fertel, said: "Despite his illness, he remains remarkably healthy for a 93-year-old man." The "My Hope with Billy Graham" evangelistic outreach will take place in November next year.
