MOTHER TERESA and Rupert Murdoch appear in a list of the 60 most influential Christians of the past 60 years, compiled by Premier Christian Radio to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Sir Cliff Richard, Bono, Usain Bolt, and Dame Judi Dench are also listed, with Dr Rowan Williams, and Nelson Mandela. Other names include J. K. Rowling, Graham Greene, Baroness Thatcher, Tony Blair, Ian Paisley, and Baroness Williams. It was compiled from nominations by church leaders.
“The list celebrates Christians who have excelled in their chosen sphere of endeavour,” the chief executive of Premier Christian Radio, Peter Kerridge, said.
The list also includes Archbishop Janani Luwum, who was murdered in Uganda after speaking out against Idi Amin’s regime; and the businessman Sir John Laing, who made a pledge to God that, for every pound he earned, a percentage would be given to charity. When he died, his possessions were valued at £371, despite the millions his business had made.
