From Canon Andrew Greany
Sir, - Many people associated with Old St Martin's in the
Cornmarket, Worcester, will have been intrigued to read of
"Monahan's Model" (Diary, 6 July). Fr Monahan was Rector of St
Swithun's with Old St Martin's, Worcester, from 1902 to 1946, and
was, among other things, responsible for St Swithun's Prayer Book,
beloved of many Anglo-Catholics.
Today, St Swithun's is in the care of the Churches Conservation
Trust, but Old St Martin's, though served by only one
non-stipendiary "ox" in the form of an "Associate Priest", still
has a tabernacle, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament once a
month. The congregation, in collaboration with others of good will
in Worcester, is now planning a substantial project to renew the
parish room and churchyard garden for the benefit of the local
community.
