Sir, — Over the past months, the Church Times has looked at the situation of older people from various angles. Last month, you reported the Archbishop of York, Dr Sentamu, as saying that we should encourage people to talk more about death (News, 18 May).

Looking at the Rich Pattern of Life — God and us, what is it all about? is a course designed to help an older person to take stock of his or her life and look forward with hope to the inevitability of death. It is easy to customise the course to the specific person, and it can also be adapted for use with a church group.

It has been used successfully in both these ways here in Bristol, and proved valuable in helping people address often unexplored issues of forgiveness and mortality.

It is now available on the Bristol diocesan website, from where it can be downloaded free of charge. The URL is www.bristol.anglican.org/ministry/mindev/develop_ministry_rich.html .
