From the Bishop of Beverley

Sir, — Ardent psephologists will have spotted a statistical error in my article on the Alternative Vote (Comment last week). I ascribed a majority in excess of 250 to the Conservatives after the 1983 General Election; I should have written, of course, that the majority in question was in excess of 140.

Responsibility for the error is entirely mine, owing to faulty skills on the keyboard and then inaccurate proofreading. I trust that readers will feel, nevertheless, that it hardly affects the basic argument contained in the article.
