Bishop White to be Assistant Bishop in Newcastle

THE next Assistant Bishop of Newcastle will be the Rt Revd Frank White, Bishop of Brixworth, in Peterborough diocese. The Bishop, who was ordained priest in 1981, served in Newcastle diocese until he was conse­crated in 2002. He is married to Alison, who leads retreats. He expects to start in his new post in November.

New Safeguarding Adviser starts work

ELIZABETH HALL started work this week as the Church of England and Methodist Church in Britain’s Safeguarding Adviser. Ms Hall has 25 years’ experience in social work and the Probation Service. Most recently, she worked as Head of Safeguarding for the north-west region of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service. Her predecessor, the Revd Pearl Luxon, will leave the post in September, after a four-month handover period, to become an independent Safeguarding consultant.

Plans for Scargill House development withdrawn

A PLANNING application for a £6.5-million development of Scargill House, near Kettlewell (News, 28 August 2009), has been with­drawn by the charity the Scargill Movement after a “sub­stantial” number of objections to its plans.
