New icons in Essex

23 February 2010

The Dean of Chelmsford Cathedral, the Very Revd Peter Judd, finishes the lettering on a large icon of St Peter high above the chancel. It is one of four new icons by Orthodox iconographers who have chosen to remain anonymous. They depict Mary, Jesus, St Peter, and St Cedd, the last of whom brough the Christian faith to Essex in 654. They are now on the north side of the chancel, in windows previously blocked off and blank for 70 years
