RIPON: Cathedral bevvy

18 May 2010

by Margaret Duggan

MORE than 1000 people from all over Yorkshire gathered at Ripon Cathedral to drink beer — 28 different sorts of it.

The Bank Holiday Beer Festival was again a great success, and not a drop was left by the end of the day. There was a hog roast, a barbecue, and plenty of music. A Leeds band, the Dunwell Brothers, drew many of their fans who had spotted the festival on Facebook. The cathedral lay clerks and a couple of other bands also kept the crowds happy. For the children there was a bouncy castle, face-painting, and games.

So many people came that £6088 was raised for the Organ Restoration Appeal — £2000 more than last year, although about another £250,000 is needed.
