THE expected minibus failed to arrive at St Mary’s to take people to St Gabriel’s for the relaunch of the Prestwich Mission Partnership, so drivers offered lifts. Among them was the Bishop of Manchester, the Rt Revd Nigel McCulloch, who was doing the relaunching.
Unfortunately, he found he could not launch himself — the wheelsof his car spun helplessly on the ice.(I am told that unkind persons said his passengers had eaten too much Christmas pudding.)
Collaborative ministry came to the rescue. A spontaneous team of clergy, readers, and churchwardens pushed the Bishop’s car off the ice and back into action. The morning was rescued, and the Bishop went on to St Gabriel’s to relaunch the Partnership.
