Keeping well: grants totalling £487,000 were made by the Cathedral and Church Buildings Division of the Archbishops’ Council during 2009, it was reported this week. The division acts as a broker for funds from outside bodies, in this case the Pilgrim Trust, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the Radcliffe Trust, and the Wolfson Foundation. It has disbursed more than £2.5 million since 2000. In all, 148 parishes benefited last year, among them St Oswald’s, Malpas, in Cheshire, for the conservation of 17th-century Flemish glass roundels (above); Hexham Abbey, for the display of its Anglo-Saxon chalice (below); and St Bartholomew’s, Cadeleigh, for work on the Leach family memorial (bottom). www.churchcare.co.uk
