OXFORD: Chocolate fund-raiser

28 September 2010

by Margaret Duggan

MORE than 100 people now join in the “Songs of Praise” that the Revd Rosanna Martin organises at the Uffington White Horse Show, which takes place over the August Bank Holiday. It is only a very small percentage of the 10,000 people who visit the show each year, but the number has grown steadily.

Incorporated into the Sunday-evening service this time was the baptism of Daniel Saunders, the son of Angela and Duncan Saunders, a young couple from the village. Mrs Martin is Priest-in-Charge of three churches in the Uffington benefice in the diocese of Oxford, but it is St Mary’s, Uffington, that runs a stall selling cakes, jams, chutneys, and garden produce.

This year, it raised more than £1200 for church funds; and the chocolate fountain (above), which has become a favourite feature in the past four years, raised a further £365.
