“The miles were eaten up as he sped he knew not whither, living his hour, reckless of what might come to him”: Toad takes a car that is not his for a spin in The Wind in the Willows, abridged and illustrated by Inga Moore (Walker Books, £9.99 (£9); 978-1-4063-1742-8). This new edition combines two earlier selections from the 1908 children’s classic. Another illustration below
